Alter & Super presents: Gabber Modus Operandi and Raja Kirik
April 28 @ 7:00 pm - 11:59 pmDKK100
Gabber Modus Operandi
Gabber Modus Operandi is an accidental project founded by Kasimyn and Ican Harem.
The soon-to-be infamous duo promise potent, unusual fusions of “the sacred, the stupid, and the fun,”
exhibiting a penchant for any and all things outrageous. After cutting their teeth at local parties and
punk gigs in Denpasar, the duo banded together to experiment with and amalgamate the evil energies
of gabber, driving rhythms of footwork, percussive patterns of funkot (an Indonesian dance music
subgenre), and wildness of jathilan (a traditional Indonesian trance dance in which spirits possess a
dancer’s body, challenging one to become more animal and more wild).
Raja Kirik is Indonesian duo Yennu Ariendra and J. Mo’ong Santoso Pribadi, two radical artists who draw on Java’s rich cultural traditions and its history of struggle against colonial oppression to create music that surprises, challenges and educates in equal measure. They root their music in the sound of shamanic trance dances, specifically the Jaranan, or Jathilan, a Hindu-Buddhist-era dance from the 11th Century that symbolizes the ways common people could overcome their rulers using evasion and agility.
Alter is a part of Music City Aarhus 2022 and supported by Aarhus Kommune, Statens Kunstfond, Nordisk Kulturfond and Roskilde Festival.
